Hyderabad: Train movement on the Shankarpally–Hyderabad railway line was briefly disrupted on Thursday after a woman, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, drove her car onto the railway tracks near Kodangal Gate in Shankarpally.

The incident drew attention from railway workers and residents, who were alarmed to see a white car being driven directly along the tracks.

Railway Workers Intervene

According to officials, the car was first spotted by a railway gang performing maintenance work in the area. The workers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the woman continued to drive along the tracks.

Vehicle Lacked Number Plate

The woman, whose identity has not yet been disclosed by authorities, was eventually stopped by a group of bystanders. A police team was alerted and reached the spot shortly thereafter.

The woman was taken into custody and handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The vehicle, which did not carry a registration number plate, was removed from the tracks and shifted to the local police station for further investigation.

Train Movement Affected

Railway officials confirmed that train services on the route were delayed for a short duration as the vehicle was cleared from the tracks and safety inspections were carried out.

Investigation Underway

Police are currently investigating how the vehicle ended up on the tracks and whether the woman was under the influence of alcohol, as suspected. Medical tests are expected to confirm her condition.

“She’d Been Disturbed Since Losing Her Job,” Say Railway Police

“ She had been mentally disturbed ever since she lost her job at Tech Mahindra,” an investigator from the Railway Police told Newsmeter. “This morning’s incident could’ve turned tragic if trains hadn’t been halted in time.”

Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said the woman, a former employee at a multinational IT company, had been dealing with severe personal setbacks, including a divorce and recent job loss. Hours before the incident, she visited the Narsingi police station and informed officers that she intended to end her life but left abruptly without sharing details, leaving behind her bag.

“She was battling emotional distress and had also approached the police earlier,” said GRP Superintendent of Police Chandana Deepti. “Her actions endangered both railway property and passenger safety. A case is being registered under the Railway Act.”

The car was removed from the tracks after police intervention and the woman was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a health check-up. Train traffic between Nagulapally and Shankarpally was halted from 7:10 am to 8:15 am, delaying eight trains. Her family, currently based in Lucknow, has been informed and is en route to Hyderabad.
