Vizag on the big screen: From HIT 2 to C/O Kancharapalem, here are movies shot in the city

Visakhapatnam: From 'Maro Charitra' of 1978 to 'HIT: The Second Case' of 2022, some of the places in Visakhapatnam, including Andhra University campus, the beaches, King George Hospital, Siripuram junction, Light House, Vizag port, and Araku valley have featured in several Telugu films.

Almost every actor and actress has shot a hit movie in Visakhapatnam. Directors believe that filming at least one scene in Visakhapatnam will make the movie successful and get a good response from the audience. After the recently-released movie 'HIT: The Second Case', which was shot in Vizag, it has become a proud moment for Vizagites to see their favorite locations on the big screen.

So, why is Vizag a popular location for film shootings?

Back in the '70s, Vizag beaches were the most beautiful locations and many superhit black and white movies were shot in Visakhapatnam and Bheemunipatnam beaches.

The city has some ancient and gothic buildings, especially on the Andhra University campus. Flashback scenes, college love stories, and action scenes were primarily shot on the AU campus. Araku valley and the ghat roads were the location for love scenes and romantic rides. Meanwhile, Vizag port and fishing harbor are always the best locations for fight scenes with gangsters, for kidnappings, and the climax of the film.

Here are a few movies that are shot in Vizag:

HIT: The Second Case

The mystery thriller film was written and directed by Sailesh Kolanu and stars Adivi Sesh and Meenakshi Chaudhary. It revolves around a police officer who is assigned to investigate the brutal murder of a woman. The film is mainly shot in Vizag, especially in Siripuram junction, Divis beach, Hawa Mahal, fishing harbor, and Araku valley. The film has Hawa Mahal as the Vizag police station, with the whole story revolving around the city.

Ninnu Kori

The romantic comedy-drama starring Nani, Nivetha Thomas, and Aadi Pinisetty has its heart in the South campus of Andhra University. Nani as Umamaheshwara Rao pursues Ph.D. at the statistics department of AU. The movie is shot in the physics and zoology departments and the outdoor auditorium of the university. Many scenes were also shot on Rushikonda and Yarada beaches.

Vunnadi Okate Zindagadi

This coming-of-age drama film that stars Ram Pothineni, Lavanya Tripathi, Anupama Parameswaran, and Sree Vishnu has the famous "Friendship Anthem" that was shot on AU's North campus. Almost all the songs in the movie are shot on the beaches of Vizag, Araku valley, and ghat roads.

Jaanu

'Jaanu', starring Sharwanand, is the Telugu remake of the Tamil film '96''. Some important scenes from the movie were shot in Vizag. One of the famous scenes where the actor talks to his lover for the first time was shot at the physics department on the South campus of AU.

C/O Kancharapalem

The Telugu film screened at the New York Film Festival and the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne. It has a cast of over 80 non-actors, most of them natives of Kancharapalem, a neighborhood of Visakhapatnam. The film with four unconventional love stories is entirely shot in the Kancharapalem area, with a few scenes shot at the fishing harbor, beach, and Andhra University.

Chiranjeevi's superhit movie Abhilasha's famous song "Navvindi Malle Chendu, Nachinidi Girlfriend" is shot on the Vizag beaches. The residence where the actress Radhika stays is one of the oldest houses on Beach road, usually given for film shootings.

Chatrapati

One of the superhit films of Prabhas is based on Vizag port. Brought up in the port itself, the story revolves around the port area and a few more locations in Vizag. The scene where Prabhas and a group of goondas encounter each other at the port is the best shot in Vizag.
