Srikakulam: A thief's plan to decamp with valuables from a temple went for a toss when he got stuck in a small window while trying to escape. The incident occurred at a temple in Jadupudi village under Kanchili mandal in Srikakulam district on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old R. Papa Rao entered the Jami Yelamma temple through a small window with the intention to steal silver ornaments and other valuables. After stealing around 20 gms of silver ornaments, he tried to escape through the same window. However, he got stuck and was unable to escape.
When the locals reached the scene, they found him in an awkward position. He was rescued and then taken into custody.
The locals were also surprised to know he had entered the temple through the small window.
The police said Papa Rao has been committing crimes to support his drinking habit. Earlier, he had stolen an LPG cylinder from his mother's house. The police have registered a case against Papa Rao and recovered the stolen silver ornaments from him.
