West Godavari: In a huge catch, the West Godavari police seized around Rs. 4.76 crore cash in a private bus and arrested 11 members, including the driver and the cleaner. On reliable information, the West Godavari police conducted checks near the Veeravalli toll plaza in Nallajerla mandal in the district.

The private bus was traveling from Srikakulam to Guntur and was surrounded by three escort vehicles. The police found boxes hidden behind the bus's luggage cabin and below the passenger seats.

"A few gold merchants from Srikakulam are sending money to Guntur to buy gold and taking back the gold in the same bus. We found that similar cases had happened with a few gold merchants in other districts too," said West Godavari superintendent of police Rahul Dev Sarma.

The police prepared an audit report, handed over the cash to the Income Tax department, and seized three vehicles.
