West Godavari cops found Rs. 4.76 cr cash; 350 gms gold in a bus
Sources said there is a big gold buying racket operating
By Newsmeter Network Published on 1 April 2022 11:41 AM GMTWest Godavari: In a huge catch, the West Godavari police seized around Rs. 4.76 crore cash in a private bus and arrested 11 members, including the driver and the cleaner. On reliable information, the West Godavari police conducted checks near the Veeravalli toll plaza in Nallajerla mandal in the district.
The private bus was traveling from Srikakulam to Guntur and was surrounded by three escort vehicles. The police found boxes hidden behind the bus's luggage cabin and below the passenger seats.
When the police opened a box, they found around Rs. 80 lakh cash. They found cash packed in small boxes and the total came up to Rs. 4.76 crore. The police also seized 350 grams of gold. "A few gold merchants from Srikakulam are sending money to Guntur to buy gold and taking back the gold in the same bus. We found that similar cases had happened with a few gold merchants in other districts too," said West Godavari superintendent of police Rahul Dev Sarma.
The police prepared an audit report, handed over the cash to the Income Tax department, and seized three vehicles.
Sources said there is a big gold buying racket operating. The Income Tax department will take over the investigation.
