Telangana: Turmeric farmers in the Nizamabad district have put up hoardings against BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri for failing to get Turmeric Board sanctioned from the Centre.

Through banners and posters, farmers reminded the MP about his promise. Pertinently, the Centre clarified in parliament that there was no proposal to establish a Turmeric Board.

Nizamabad MP fails to bring Turmeric Board

In March 2019, Arvind signed a written pledge with a non-judicial stamp pledging to get the board sanctioned by the Centre. His associates distributed copies of the pledge throughout the turmeric-growing regions of Nizamabad. Senior BJP leaders including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Ram Madhav also supported the pledge.

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel told parliament that there is no proposal to establish a Turmeric Board or any other spice-specific board in the country.

This revelation triggered protests with farmers targeting MP for hoodwinking the voters. The yellow-colored hoardings in Telugu read, "Turmeric Board," were seen all over Nizamabad on March 31.

Former Nizamabad MP questions current Nizamabad MP

Former Nizamabad MP and BRS MLC, Kalvakuntla Kavitha hit out at Arvind for failing to keep his word. She accused him of making exaggerated claims about the allocation of Rs 100 crore when in reality, every farmer only received Rs 200. Kavitha also criticized Arvind for failing to convince the union government to set up a turmeric board in the district.

After the Centre clarified that the Turmeric Board would not be set up, farmers of Nizamabad decided to protest and remind Arvind of his broken promise. They put up posters mocking the Nizamabad MP and highlighting his empty promises and failure to secure a turmeric board for the farmers of Nizamabad.
