Hyderabad: Congress candidate Naveen Yadav is the new Jubilee Hills MLA. This victory marks Congress’s second MLA in the Greater Hyderabad region after Secunderabad Cantonment.
Naveen Yadav clinched victory with a thumping majority of close to 25,000 votes. The high-end decibel election ended on November 11, with the ruling party enjoying a lead in all seven divisions of Jubilee Hills.
Who is Naveen Yadav?
V Naveen Yadav, a 41-year-old, is a native of Hyderabad. His father, Chinna Srisailam Yadav, is a well-known person in Jubilee Hills. The family has been connected politically for over a decade and a half in Rahamath Nagar, Shaikpet, Yousufguda, and other localities in Hyderabad, which was a huge advantage for the Congress.
Educational and professional background
Naveen Yadav holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from CSIIT, Begumpet, Hyderabad, which he completed in 2007. After graduation, he began engaging in community initiatives and youth-centric programs, marking the start of his journey in public life.
Leadership in social and sports initiatives
Naveen has held key leadership roles in social and sports organisations, including:
- President, State Yadava Student Wing.
- President, Telangana Throwball Association.
- Founder and President, NGO Nav Yuva Nirman.
Early political career
In 2009, at the age of 25, Naveen joined AIMIM, quickly making his mark within the party. His dedication caught the attention of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, who offered him a ticket to contest the 2014 MLA elections from Jubilee Hills constituency.
Electoral journey
2014 MLA Election (AIMIM): Naveen contested the election at age 30, securing 41,656 votes and finishing second. He outperformed the Congress candidate but lost to the TDP-BJP alliance candidate by 9,000 votes. Naveen was the youngest contestant in the fray.
2018 MLA Election (Independent): Running as an independent candidate due to internal party dynamics, he garnered 18,856 votes during a brief 10-day campaign, setting a record for independent candidates in Hyderabad.
Recent political developments
In 2023, Naveen Yadav joined the Congress party and served as the election in-charge for the Jubilee Hills constituency, further solidifying his political presence in the region.
Naveen Yadav declared Rs 30 crore in assets, seven criminal cases
Naveen Yadav has declared assets worth nearly Rs 30 crore and has seven criminal cases against him, according to his election affidavit filed with the Returning Officer.
His spouse, V Varsha Yadav, has declared assets of around Rs 8 crore, along with liabilities amounting to Rs 75 lakh.
Criminal cases include bribery and cheating
As per the affidavit, Yadav is facing three criminal cases, including one related to bribery and undue influence during elections. The cases are registered at the Madhura Nagar and Jubilee Hills Police Stations.
A case was booked under Sections 123(1) and 123(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and Sections 170, 171, 174 of the BNS about bribery, undue influence and illegal inducements during elections.
A case was registered under Section 506 of the IPC- criminal intimidation. Another case was registered under Section 506 of IPC, registered under Crime No. 395 of 2006, Jubilee Hills Police Station, booked under Sections 406, 420, and 506 of IPC for criminal breach of trust, cheating, and intimidation.
