Prakasam: Hanumanthunipadu PS in Prakasam district has been awarded the 'Best Police Station' in Andhra Pradesh.

The awards are given by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, as a part of the annual ranking of police stations for 2022.

On Monday, AP Director General of Police K V Rajendranath Reddy presented the ā€˜Certificate of Excellenceā€™ issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs to Prakasam district Superintendent of Police Malika Garg, and Hanumanthunipadu Sub-Inspector of Police Krishna Pavani at the Police Headquarters in Mangalagiri.

The DGP presented a cash prize of Rs 25,000 to the District SP and Rs 10,000 to the SI.

The exercise of ranking the best police station across the country is conducted under the supervision of the Police Modernization Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which also facilitates shortlisting of police stations from all over the country. The police stations are then ranked based on their performance.

Factors taken into consideration are:

1. Control of crime rate.

2. Law and Order maintenance.

3. Enforcement of laws.

4. Investigation and analysis of cases.

5. Court Summons, court monitoring.

6. Proactive policing.

7. Community engagement.

8. Patrol management.

9. Greenness and cleanliness.

SI who carried decomposed body:

With a team of ten police members at HM Padu police station, Krishna Pavani has been working as SI for two years.

In 2022, Krishna Pavani won people's hearts when she carried an unidentified corpse on her shoulders, as no one came forward.

Pavani and her constable carried a dead body of a 65-year-old person for three kilometers in the Hazipet forest area. The elderly person's body was wrapped in a mat and later tied to a wooden log. Then Pavani carried it on her shoulders to the main road.

Speaking to News Meter, SI Krishna Pavani said, "The award is a result of teamwork. The survey was done in the villages where the locals were asked about the police activities. Their positive reviews have also helped us in bagging the best police station award."

There are 17,379 sanctioned police stations across the country. Out of this, 9,378 police stations are located in rural areas, whereas 4,929 police stations are located in urban areas, and the remaining 3,072 are special-purpose police stations. Out of the total, 74 were selected for evaluation.

For the assessment and evaluation for 2022, 1021 police stations in Andhra Pradesh were selected. Out of which, three police stations were shortlisted.
