Yellow alert: Rains bring Hyderabad to standstill; inclement weather to continue

Hyderabad: For the last two days, Hyderabad has seen heavy rain, which has caused traffic jams in several sections.

Directorate of enforcement vigilance and disaster management advised people to stay inside for the foreseeable future unless absolutely necessary.

Rain, lightning, and strong winds battered areas of the city beginning in the late evening.

Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Lingamapally, JNTU, Bachupally, Dhulapally, Pragathi Nagar, Uppal, Nacharam, Kothapet, Mallapur, Habsiguda, Nagole, Boduppal, Medipally, Kapra, Dammaiguda, Keesara, Mallapur, Begumpet, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Neredmet, Tirumalagiri, Karkhana and parts of Secunderabad received moderate rain showers.

More areas of the city including Secunderabad, Shaikpet, Bandlaguda, Toli Chowki, Tank Bund, Film Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Biodiversity, Film Nagar, Langer Houz, Nanakramguda, Manikonda, Asifnagar, Attapur, Rajendranagar, Khairatabad, Namapally, and portions of the old city, also experienced showers and strong winds.

Rainfall in the state would be sustained by a trough that extends from east Vidarbha to north interior Tamil Nadu via Telangana and interior Karnata.

As per the IMD reports, thundershowers with lightning occurred at many places in the state such as Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jagtial, Jangaon, Karimnagar, Kumaram Bheem, Mahbubabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Kamareddy, Mancherial, Mulugu, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Siricilla, Ranga Reddy, Sanga Reddy, Siddipet, YAdadri Bhvangiri.

In the late afternoon, intense downpours and thundershowers were seen in Vikarabad, Hanamkonda, and Warangal.

The TS Development and Planning Society stated that Shaikpet had the most rainfall, measuring 106 mm, followed by Gachibowli (96.8 mm), and Uppal (81.8 mm).


IMD has issued a yellow alert for the following five days due to the high likelihood of heavy showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with a speed of 40–50 kmph in numerous areas.

Moderate Thunderstorms with surface wind are very likely to occur over Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jagtial, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Peddapalli, Suryapet in the next 3 hours.

A mainly gloomy sky will prevail over the city, and mild to moderate rain will likely fall throughout the following two days. Further decreases in the maximum and minimum temperatures are anticipated, to 31 degrees and 21 degrees, respectively.

Power outrages

The city experienced numerous power outages, which inconvenienced the residents. Multiple areas were flooded, causing waterlogging and backups of traffic.

Many areas that experienced power outages persisted well into the evening due to uprooted electrical poles and trees falling on power lines. About 43 tress fell in the city last night.




There were severe traffic jams in places like Secunderabad, Narayanguda, Ameerpet Punjagutta, Balanagar, Trimulgherry, Moosapet, Chaderghat, Khairatabad, and others because of the overflowing roads everywhere. The worst situation was for pedestrians to wade across the flooded streets while avoiding exposed manholes and drains.



The city saw a lot of weddings last night. Lt of function halls in the old city were booked which turned out to be a messy affair because of the rains, thunderstorms, water logging, and power outrages.
