Amaravati: Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) suffered another setback when Rajya Sabha members Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, and Beeda Mastan Rao resigned both from the party and as MP.

The two MPs submitted their resignation to the Rajya Sabha Chairman on Thursday afternoon. Mopidevi Venkata Ramana confirmed that he will join the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) soon.

Mopidevi Venkata Ramana RS term was to end in June 2026. However, he was upset with the party leadership. Mopidevi has represented the Kuchinapudi assembly constituency twice and the Repalle assembly constituency once. He also served as a legislative council member.

Mopidevi was the first minister to be arrested by CBI in connection with the disproportionate assets case of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in 2012. After getting bail, Mopidevi joined YSRCP but lost the 2014 and 2019 elections from Repalle. However, Jagan inducted him into the cabinet and later brought him to the legislative council.

"I faced a lot of struggles in the last one year in my constituency. I have quit the YSRCP due to various reasons. The people have defeated the YSRCP and gave a clear mandate to the TDP. Several leaders in the YSRCP are staying away from the party activities and a few of them have already resigned. The YSRCP leadership should verify the fault which went wrong for them in the elections. Chandrababu Naidu is an experienced leader and I have decided to work under his leadership. Soon I will join the TDP and I hope party will accommodate with an appropriate position," Mopidevi Venkata Ramana said.

Another RS member and industrialist Beeda Mastan Rao is chairman of BMR Group, a shrimp farming and exports firm with plants in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

He was also a member of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority. In December 2019, Rao joined the YSRCP after quitting TDP over "personal reasons." He became a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022.

It may be recalled that MLC Pothula Suneetha has already resigned from the YSRCP and her membership in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council. Suneetha previously switched to YSRCP from TDP as an MLC. She is now planning to return to her former party.
