Visakhapatnam: YSRCP President and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked the YSRCP social media wing to create an app to take complaints from social media influencers facing harassment for their posts.

On Tuesday, Jagan interacted with social media influencers during the Memantha Siddham Yatra in Visakhapatnam. Jagan asked the YSR Congress Party Media and Social Media coordinator Sajjala Bhargav to give him a report every week on the social media workers’ issues.

Trolls pushed influencer to quit job

Hundreds of social media influencers gathered to meet Jagan and shared the problems of trolls they have been facing on social media, especially from the Opposition parties.

Jagan recalled how Geetanjali died by suicide after she was trolled badly by the Opposition on social media for expressing her happiness to have received government schemes. Geethanjali’s husband also attended the meeting.

Speaking to Jagan, a social media influencer Sucharitha shared the alleged harassment she faced. “I was working as a private security officer in Visakha Airport Food Court when Kodi Kathi Srinu attacked you (Jagan). Everyone around me was a TDP sympathiser, and after they realized that I was a fan of Jagan, everyone harassed me during the job and on social media. When I tried to follow the PCS rule, they harassed me further, which led to my resignation.”

She claimed that a false theft case was filed against her, which prevented her from getting another job and has been jobless ever since. “Even my family was harassed and we moved away from the city,” she added.

Geetanjali remembered

Geethanjali came into the spotlight after she was recognised as a beneficiary of the Jagananna Housing Scheme. She was given a plot for free under the scheme during a public program, and elated over this, Geethanjali praised chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government on camera.

Following this, she was subjected to severe trolling and comments on social media from many pages. On March 7, at around 11 am, Geethanjali attempted suicide by trying to stand before an oncoming train. Though the train loco pilot tried to stop the train, she was severely injured and was shifted to a hospital. However, she died at the hospital on March 11.
