TS ex-minister booked for brandishing pistol at govt engineer, JCB driver

Nalognda: The police registered a case against former minister Gutta Mohan Reddy on charges of allegedly threatening the site engineer and JCB driver with his licensed pistol in Nalgonda district on Sunday.

Mohan Reddy allegedly brandished his pistol at the engineering officials and the staff when the latter were carrying out canal widening works which were passing through his land at Urumadla village in Chityala Mandal.

According to the police, Mohan Reddy owns a parcel of land on the outskirts of the village. From this land, around 820 square yards were acquired by the government, for canal works. As it was a patta land, the compensation as per the norms was also paid and work has also begun recently.

Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, officials were carrying out digging works at the place. Knowing about this, Mohan Reddy rushed to the site and tried to disrupt the works. When the site engineer and the JCB driver tried to explain and convince him, he became angry and pulled out his pistol and brandished it at them. He also allegedly abused and threatened them of dire consequences.

Later, the site engineer lodged a complaint with the police and a case has been registered at Chityala police station under charges of Arms Act, threatening and also under charges to deter a public servant from discharge of duty. Further probe is underway, the police said.
