TTD starts free food distribution among jobless migrant laborers in Tirupati
By Newsmeter Network Published on 28 March 2020 6:46 PM ISTTirupati: Waking up to the plight of poor and needy, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has started the distribution of food packets among the homeless and migrant laborers in the city limits.
The initiative has been started to support the people who have no source of livelihood.
TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal said that they had provided 15,000 food packets by Saturday afternoon and they would increase the number according to the demand.
Singal noted that the TTD is ready to provide 50,000 food packets daily to the needy in the holy city. He said that the food is being prepared at the temple kitchens under the overall supervision of Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust (SVAT). Since the Darshan is closed, the kitchens are being utilized to cook food for the needy.
On Saturday, TTD authorities prepared Pulihora for distribution. It includes Pongal, Curd Rice, Tomato Rice, Bisibela Bath, and Kichidi. They are also planning to increase the number to 30,000 food packets from 15,000 food packets for dinner. These packets would be distributed at Srinivasam, Vishnunivasam, Second Choultry, and at Padmavathi Nilayam in Tiruchanur.
Meanwhile, a senior official said they have permitted BIRRD hospital to treat corona cases. He said SVIMS authorities have been directed to purchase ventilators and emergency medical equipment
Apart from SVIMS, arrangements have been made at Padmavathi Medical College for treating corona patients. Padmavathi Guest House in Tiruchanur has been converted into an isolation facility for the patients.
