Two boys drown in lake during Holi celebrations

Warangal: Two people drowned in the Paya Lake at Kapula Kanaparthy village under Sangem Mandal in Warangal on 9 March during Holi celebrations. They have been identified as Davud Rakesh (8) and Kandakatla Yashwanth (16).

After celebrating Holi with family and friends, four boys from the village went to the lake to wash themselves. Three of them, Barla Raju Kumar, Rakesh, and Yashwanth, accidentally slipped into the water while playing and drowned as they could not swim. The other boy, Sadaran Rakesh, shouted for help and the villagers rushed to the spot. Raju Kumar was pulled out in an unconscious condition but was revived by the villagers. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and he is said to be out of danger. The other two boys drowned and went missing.

Sangam Mandal sub-inspector N. Suresh said the incident took place at about 11 a.m when the four friends went to the lake to take bath. The dead bodies were later retrieved by local swimmers. The police sent the bodies to MGM hospital for post-mortem. All four boys are students of Government High School in the village.
