Two burnt alive after chemical-laden vehicle catches fire in West Godavari

Eluru, West Godavari: Tragedy struck West Godavari district when a driver and conductor were charred to death when their chemical-laden lorry caught fire after hitting a roadside tree near Alampuran village under Pentapadu Mandal on Thursday evening.

The truck was en route to Tanuku from Eluru when the incident occurred. The driver and conductor were killed on the spot.

Sources said that the driver lost control of the speedy vehicle and hit the tree. Police have reached the spot and launched an investigation to establish the identity of the deceased persons.

Police said the deceased were in the age group of 35-40 years and might be hailing from Eluru of West Godavari. Due to the accident, the police stopped the vehicular movement on the stretch for an hour.

Police have formed a special team to identify the owner of the vehicle and ascertain whether he had permission to transport the highly inflammable chemicals. Police have shifted the charred bodies to the government hospital for the autopsy.
