Two killed, several injured in Khanda BioFuels blast at Zaheerabad
By Newsmeter Network Published on 14 May 2020 3:33 AM GMTHyderabad: Two workers were killed and several others injured when a blast ripped through the boiler of Khanda BioFuels at Zaheerabad in Sangareddy district, even as three workers were hospitalized after gas leaked from a bakery unit at Shamshabad on Wednesday.
The incidents come close on the heels of gas leak from LG polymers in Vizag of Andhra Pradesh. Located at Arjun Nayak Tanda at Zaheerabad, the blast occurred when the workers were busy in their daily routine. Police said one of the storage boilers of Khanda BioFuels exploded with a big bang.
Workers ran for safety, however, Saber and Ghouse could not make it and died on the spot. Immediately the operations at the factory were suspended. It is suspected that the unused chemical stored in the tank, led to a reaction triggering the explosion.
Sangareddy district police have registered a case and started the investigation. Officials from the Pollution Control Board and Department of Factories also visited the accident site and launched a probe.
Later, workers at the factory staged a protest demanding compensation to the victimsā families and adequate safety measures.
Zaheerabad MLA Manik Rao and MLC Fareeduddin visited the site and expressed grief over the death of two workers. They also announced a compensation of Rs 15 lakh each to the families of deceased
It may be recalled that two days ago, a worker was hospitalized after gas leaked from Sirpur Paper Mills in Komaram Bheem in Asifabad district.
