Unable to bear husband's death due to COVID, Punjagutta woman ends life
By Newsmeter Network Published on 7 Aug 2020 3:17 PM GMTHyderabad: A woman who recently lost her husband to COVID-19 died by suicide in Punjagutta, Hyderabad, on 7 August. The 55-year-old woman died by suicide at her home a day after her 57-year-old husband died of the virus.
The couple's 34-year-old son, a techie, had first tested positive for COVID-19 in the family.
According to the police, the family lived at Yellareddyguda in Ameerpet under the police limits of Punjagutta. The techie had tested positive for COVID-19 on 31 July and he was placed under home isolation. On 4 August, his father had also tested positive and he was also placed under home isolation. While the father and the son had isolated themselves on the first floor of their home, the woman was living on the ground floor of the same house.
The father and son did not leave the first floor and the woman was taking care of their needs. But the father died of the virus on Thursday and his final rites were also completed immediately. On Friday morning, he went to get tested again and returned home after an hour to find his mother dead.
In a complaint to the police, the techie said he suspected that his mother took the extreme step unable to bear the pain of losing her husband. The Punjagutta police have registered a case and started an investigation.
