Butul Gang sentenced to 8-yrs in prison for robbing jewellery store in Telangana

Hyderabad: Two brothers from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh were sentenced to eight years of rigorous imprisonment on 23 June after a local court convicted them in a jewellery store robbery case.

The duo, Brijbhushan and Shashibhushan, are members of a gang popularly known as the “Butul Gang” and have been involved in several offenses since 2012. The police said the gang members have been involved in several cases of murder and automobile theft in the limits of Cyberabad, Rachakonda commissionerate, during 2017-18. They were also involved in an altercation with the police in Gujarat where they exchanged fire with the cops. They do not hesitate to open fire on the victims if they resist and have a history of attacking the cops, the police said.

On 18 August 2018, the gang tried to rob a jewelry store in Telangana's Keesara and held the shopkeeper at gunpoint. When the latter retaliated, one of the gang members fired one round in the air and fled the scene. The gang also stole a motorcycle from a person who tried to chase them.

The police identified the accused from CCTV footage and circulated their images across the country. The cops in Gujarat identified them as the same men who were arrested in November 2018 after an exchange of fire with the Ankleshwar city police. Based on this information, the Keesara police arrested the two brothers and sent them to the Central prison in Cherlapally. The cops also recovered two motorbikes from their possession.

The ADJ court, Malkajigiri, on 23 June convicted Brijbhushan and Shashibhushan and sentenced them to eight years rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs. 100 each. The court also convicted Shashibhushan to undergo five years imprisonment in another case
