Upset at sister's love marriage, youth slashes brother-in-law

Wanaparthy: Angered over his sister's marriage, against the wishes of the family, a youngster allegedly attacked her husband at Wanaparthy district in Telangana. The victim, Kalyan, sustained a deep gash in the neck and is being treated at a hospital.

Kalyan and Pushpa, both from the same village, were in love for the past few years, though the girl's family was against the relationship. The couple eloped 22 days ago and got married without their knowledge, said the police.

After learning about the marriage, Pushpa's family contacted the two for a compromise. The couple returned to their village on Friday.

When they were discussing the marriage and related issues, Pushpa's brother Ravi became furious and attacked Kalyan with a sharp object. As Kalyan collapsed in a pool of blood, Ravi fled from the spot, the police said.

Kalyan was admitted to the ICU of a nearby private hospital. His condition is being monitored, said sources. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder against Ravi and a probe is underway.
