On Monday, the MLA tested positive on Truenat after which his swab was sent to the virology laboratory. He is the first legislator in Andhra Pradesh to test positive for the virus. However, tests proved negative for his gunmen and other close associates.
The swabs of primary and secondary contacts were also collected and sent for testing. The reports are awaited.
The 52-year-old MLA returned from the USA on June 10. He reached New Delhi and flew to Hyderabad and to Visakhapatnam on June 16.
Refuting allegations that the MLA had violated health guidelines by not following the quarantine, DM&HO (in-charge) Dr G. Ravi Kumar said he was at his home under quarantine and underwent the test four times and all came negative. The fifth one proved positive.
The officials said that the MLA was at his home undergoing treatment.
