New Delhi: The ministry of road transport and highways, on 24 August, extended the validity of various motor vehicle documents, including fitness documents, permits, licenses, and registration, till 31 December.

The ministry had earlier issued an advisory on 30 March and 9 June extending the validity of the motor vehicle documents that come under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules 1989. According to the advisories, the validity of fitness certificates, permits of all types, licenses, and registration papers or any other documents may be treated as valid till 30 September.

The ministry, in its statement on Monday, said that in view of the grim situation that continues to prevail in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was further advised that the validity of all documents whose validity could not be extended due to the lockdown and which had expired since 1 February or would expire by 31 December will be treated to be valid till 31 December.
