Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the treatment of two-and-a-half-year-old girl Honey who is suffering from rare Gaucher's disease. Gaucher's disease affects a person's bones and liver due to the building up of fatty substances, causing enlargement of the organs. Gaucher is a rare disease and there are only 14 such cases in India. Andhra Pradesh is the first state in the country to provide treatment for the disease in a government hospital. The announcement follows Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to the flood-affected areas of the Konaseema district. Honey's parents were seen holding a placard during his visit. He did not promise only funds for treatment but also assured them to take care of her education.
