In a joint operation with RPF and GRP personnel, and with inputs from their Kerala counterparts, Vizag Police on Wednesday nabbed Labilu and Juwel at the railway station in connection with the double murder at Venmony in Chengannur of Kerala.
The killers were in Chennai-Howrah (Coromandel) Express Train on their way to West Bengal from where they planned to go Bangladesh. The cops also recovered gold jewellery, cash and few other materials from the Bangladeshis.
It may be recalled that an elderly couple was found brutally murdered in their home at Venmony on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as AP Cheriyan (75) and his wife Lillykutty Cheriyan (68).
The Kerala police investigated the case and found out that Labilu and Juwel had murdered the couple and decamped with gold, cash and few other valuables. The police alerted the cops from neighbouring states and issued lookout notices for the duo.
A senior police officer with Vizag Police Commissionerate said that the elderly couple was found lifeless on Tuesday morning by their neighbours. Their daughter Bindu and son Dipu are with their respective families in the Middle East.
Labilu and Juwel are migrant workers from Bangladesh and came to Venmony through a local contractor. They came to the coupleās house for cleaning the premises and removing coconuts from the trees near the house on Saturday.
Since the couple went to church every Sunday, the two did not come for work on Sunday. On Monday, no one saw the elderly couple outside of their house. On Tuesday, the milk supplying woman noticed that the couple did not take the milk bottle that was placed on Monday in front of the main door.
Sensing something fishy, she alerted the neighbours, who broke open the door and found the couple with injuries. Gold and cash were missing from the iron almirah, police said.
āWe have handed over the two to Kerala police on Wednesday afternoon. Since the crime was reported there, Kerala police will further investigate the caseā, Vizag police added.
