TDP MLA-owned Vizag Defense Academy locks students in cell for protest against poor facilities

Visakhapatnam: Tension prevailed at Vizag Defence Academy after students were locked up in a cell for staging a protest against poor facilities and high fees. The Academy is owned by TDP Visakha South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar.

More than 100 students who joined the Academy to crack the entrance tests to join the Army, Navy, and Air Force, expressed displeasure over the facilities at the Academy. K. Praveen Kumar, one of the students, said the TDP MLA has been harassing the students who have pointed out that the Academy lacks a playground, horse-riding training, and the poor quality food being served.

On 21 February, the students raised slogans against Mr Ganesh Kumar for cheating the students and not providing any proper facilities. Apparently angry with the incident, the TDP MLA asked the staff of the Academy to lock the protesting students in a cell and impose a fine of Rs. 1,000 on each student.

The Academy has failed to provide any employment to students for years but has been making money by making tall promises to the students. The city police visited the Vizag Defence Academy on Friday evening and registered a case against the management for locking up the students. The police said they are investigating the case.
