Vizag man tested positive for Covid-19, third case in Andhra Pradesh
By Newsmeter Network Published on 20 March 2020 3:35 AM GMTVisakhapatnam: Vizag city reported the first confirmed coronavirus case after a 65-year-old man from Alipuram with a travel history to Mecca-Madina tested positive.
The patient has been kept in the isolation ward at Government Hospital for Chest and Communicable Diseases, China Waltair.
District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Visakhapatnam, S Tirupati Rao said the 65-year-old man from Alipuram area had travelled to Mecca-Madina recently. He was admitted to Government Chest Hospital with suspected symptoms of coronavirus on March 17.
āWe had sent his samples to Virology Laboratory of SVIMS at Tirupati. His tests have come back positive,ā he said.
His condition is stated to be stable as of now.
Officials of the Medical and Health Department and Vizag district administration are on a lookout for people who came in contact with the infected person. The officials also launched a sanitation drive at few places at the Allipuram area in Vizag on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Belgian national, who was treated at Chest Hospital for coronavirus like symptoms has tested negative.
On March 12, AP reported its first confirmed case in Nellore City. A student who had returned from Italy to Nellore tested positive for the coronavirus. Officials said the Covid-19 infected patient is recovering from the virus.
On March 19, a 24-year-old youngster, who returned to Ongole from England tested positive.
Medical and Health and Family Welfare department officials said that so far 119 samples were tested in Andhra Pradesh and three samples came back positive. Around 114 samples came back negative. The test results of the remaining 12 are pending.
