The Gulzar Houz Fountain, situated at a prominent crossroads on the northern side of the Charminar, had long been in a state of disrepair.
However, thanks to the joint efforts of the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) and Deccan Terrain Heritage, a heritage conservation expert, the historic structure has been restored to its former glory.
AIMIM President, Asaduddin Owaisi, and Special Chief Secretary for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), Arvind Kumar, were among the dignitaries present at the event.
This restoration project, with a budget of Rs. 29.50 lakh, was completed in a record time of just four months.
The newly rejuvenated octagonal fountain boasts approximately 200 intricately arranged spouts, adding to its aesthetic appeal. Adorned with white tiles featuring a delicate blue pattern, the fountain's beauty is further accentuated by the installation of LED lights, which will illuminate the structure at night.
To ensure the protection and safety of the historic site, olive green-painted metal barriers have been strategically placed around the fountain, preserving its charm for generations to come.
In addition to the inauguration of the Gulzar Houz Fountain, the event marked the laying of foundation stones for three other noteworthy projects aimed at enhancing the city's infrastructure and heritage:
1. Multi-level Parking Area: The foundation stone was laid for the construction of a state-of-the-art multi-level parking facility near the old bus stand. This project, estimated at a cost of Rs. 34.60 crore, aims to alleviate parking congestion in the area and provide convenience to residents and visitors.
2. Laad Bazar Facade Development: Another ambitious project seeks to reimagine and beautify the shops in the historic Laad Bazar. With an allocated budget of Rs. 36 crore, this endeavor intends to enhance the overall visual appeal of the shopping district, preserving its cultural significance.
3. Pedestrian Bridges over Musi River: Two pedestrian bridges over the Musi River at Nayapul were also inaugurated with the laying of their foundation stones. These bridges, estimated to cost Rs. 80 crore, join the ranks of seven other bridges being constructed over the river. Their completion will significantly improve road connectivity in the old city, promoting accessibility and connectivity.
