Will Azharuddin join TRS?

Hyderabad: Speculation is rife that former cricketer Azharuddin, newly elected HCA president, may join the pink party. After winning the elections, the new president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), Mr Mohd Azharuddin, met Telangana Industry and IT Minister Mr KT Rama Rao here at Budha Bhavan on Saturday. This meeting has triggered speculation over Azharuddin’s joining the ruling party TRS.

Mr Azharuddin is the working President of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).

The new panel of HCR -- Vice-President John Manoj, Secretary Vijayanad, Joint Secretary Naresh, Treasurer Surendra Kumar and Councillor Anuradha -- met Mr KTR.

Former Indian cricket team captain Azharuddin and his panel swept the HCR elections. Later, he and his panel also met Ms Sabitha Indrareddy.

He joined the Congress party on February 19, 2009, and won as MP in the 2009 general election from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. However, in 2014 general elections, he lost in Tonk-Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan.

On several occasions, Mr Azharuddin has disclosed his intention to contest elections from Secunderabad Parliamentary constituency.

The 56-year-old Azharuddin ruled out the speculation over his joining TRS party and said that it was just a courtesy call after winning the HCA elections. “I’ll also meet the Chief Minister Mr K Chandrashekhara Rao. Metting Mr KTR was a courtesy call only,” said Mr Azharuddin.

The stylish Hyderabadi batsman faced rough weather in the match-fixing scandal in the 2000 year. This controversy over match-fixing spoiled his image and created tremors in the Indian cricket.
