With six more COVID deaths, toll climbs to 88 in Telangana

Hyderabad: On day one of unlock 1, six more deaths were reported in Telangana. Meanwhile, 94 new positive cases were also recorded in the state on Monday.

On 31 May, the state had witnessed the highest surge, 199 cases, in a single day.

Of the 94 new cases, 79 were reported from the GHMC limits. According to the latest health bulletin, no COVID-19 cases were reported among migrants and deportees on Monday. As of now, the total number of COVID patients in various hospitals in the state is 1,213. So far, 1,491 patients have been discharged.

Telangana has reported a total of 2,792 cases to date, of which 2,356 are local cases and 192 are migrants, many of whom have come from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha. Thirty foreign evacuees and 212 deportees have also tested positive for COVID-19.

It is pertinent to mention that, there has been a surge in cases ever since certain relaxations were implemented."The lockdown has been relaxed since the 16th May 2020. It is being observed that there is a lot of mobility and movement of people from all walks of life and of all age groups. People are travelling across the state and some of them are not following the basic preventive measures like wearing a mask, maintaining safe

physical distancing and overcrowding. There has been a surge in the cases since

relaxation of lockdown" the health officials said.

The cases are directly proportionate to the number of migrants being tested positive. Out of the 1.5 lakh migrants, a high number are from Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Bihar. Till date, 192 migrants have tested positive for covid-19 and are being treated. Besides this,The government of India has airlifted 458 deportees, of which 212 have been tested positive for COVID.
