Woman sells her baby boy for Rs 45,000, arrested

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police arrested a woman for selling her child for Rs 45,000 with the help of a middleman. The middleman was also arrested.

The police shifted the woman and the middleman to Habib Nagar police station for interrogation. “A case was registered against the woman and we are investigating,” said the police.

The accused, Shaikh Zoya Khan and her husband, Abdul Mujahid, are residents of Subhanpura, Nampally, and have a 2-month-old baby boy, Sheikh Adnan. Mujahid works as a manager in Daruwala Bar & Restaurant in the city in Errum Manzil Colony.

The police said that the couple quarrelled frequently over wife's addiction to alcohol. On August 3, the husband had a fight with his wife and left to his parents. He returned home only on August 8.

On returning, Mujahid could not find his two-month-old son at home and asked his wife, she informed him that she had sold off the child for Rs 45,000 to Shaik Mohammad and Tabassum Begum, who reside at Aghapura, Hyderabad.

Mujahed contacted them over the phone and found that they had sold off the child to another woman Ayesha Jabeen at Chanchalguda. Further, they informed him that they would get back his child, but did not return the child and concealed his whereabouts from him. Worried over his child’s safety, Mujahed lodged a complaint with police on Tuesday.

Habeeb Nagar police, after investigation, found that Siraj Begum, a woman belonging to Kalapathar, had sold the baby for Rs 45,000.

Police also arrested Ayesha Jabeen, Shaik Mohammad, Tabassum Begum and Shameem Begum who were involved in this illegal deal.

Police arrested six people in connection with the case and sent them to remand. The baby boy was handed over to Mujaheed.
