Works of Bhogapuram international airport in Vizianagaram to begin soon

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government, on 12 June, took its first step towards developing an airport in Vizianagaram district and signed an agreement with GMR Airports Ltd. to construct a greenfield international airport at Bhogapuram, around 38 km from Vizag city.

The concession agreement was signed by the state special chief secretary of industries and infrastructure, Karikal Valaven, and the chairman of GMR Airports Ltd., GBS Raju, in the presence of Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy at his office in Tadepalli.

On 4 March, the state Cabinet had approved the selection of GMR Group to develop Bhogapuram International Airport.

Mr. Raju, on Friday, said the GMR Group would develop a state-of-the-art international airport at Bhogapuram which would be ready by 2023. Meanwhile, Jagan said the airport would boost the development of north Andhra Pradesh. He said they are chalking out plans for the construction of an expressway from Bhogapuram to Vizag to enable people to reach the city faster. "Besides that, we will also construct a Metro rail network in Vizag which will extend to Bhogapuram airport," he added.
