World Badminton Championship: PV Sindhu shows her class in a one-sided final; crowned India’s First World Champion
By Anurag Mallick Published on 25 Aug 2019 12:53 PM GMTAce Indian Shuttler and Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu won her maiden world championship as she defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara (21-7, 21-7) in the finals of the World badminton championship at Basel, Switzerland on Sunday.
PV Sindhu who had earlier clinched silver in the last two editions of the championship, clinched gold this time as she became India’s first World Champion in Badminton.
Sindhu, who was dominant right from the beginning, never let the lead go away from her as she finished the first set with a huge lead of 14 points.
In the second set, which was the game-deciding set, she continued her dominance as she dominated Okuhara and won the set by a margin of 14 points, clinching the world title.
