Youth killed in Kakinada for refusing to pay Rs 2

Kakinada: In a gruesome incident, a 24-year-old was brutally killed just because he refused to pay Rs two to a cycle-repair shop in Valasapaka village under Kakinada Rural police station limits of East Godavari district on Sunday morning.

The deceased, Revu Suvarna Raju, went to the shop, owned by Samba Murthy, for filling air to his bicycle’s tyres. When the latter asked for Rs two, Raju refused and said that this service was meant to be free of cost. When the infuriated owner got into an argument and demanded the amount and Raju refused, Murthy’s friend, K Appa Rao, who was in the shop, picked up a screw-driver and stabbed Raju repeatedly. Subsequently, he smashed an iron rod on Raju’s head.

The locals shifted the severely injured Raju to the Government General Hospital, Kakinada, where Raju succumbed while undergoing treatment.

Based on a complaint by the relatives of the deceased, Kakinada Rural police rushed to the crime spot and nabbed both Appa Rao and Samba Murthy.

Sources said that it was the result of an old enmity.

Samba Murthy and Appa Rao were selling illicit liquor near the cycle-repair shop for the past few months. When Raju pointed out about this, the two bore a grudge and eventually killed him on Sunday.

“We have registered a case and investigation is on to ascertain the reasons behind the murder of Raju. We are also establishing the previous cases against Samba Murthy and Appa Rao,” said a senior police officer.
