AIMIM Corporator booked for blocking Hyderabad Police

Hyderabad:The Hyderabad city police have registered a case against AIMIM corporator Murtuza Ali for allegedly preventing cops from performing their duties and for abusing them them.

Videos of the incident that happened late on Thursday shows the corporator abusing the cops and threatening to suspend them. It went viral on social media platforms, drawing flak from several people. A case under sections 353 and 180 of the IPC and under the Disaster Management Act and the Epidemic Diseases Act have been registered against Mr Ali at Madannapet police station.

According to the police, two constables were on bandobast duty near a masjid in the Chawni area which falls under Madannapet police station limits. The cops tried to seize the vehicles of people who had gathered near the mosque. However, they protested the move and informed Mr Ali of the same. The corporator immediately rushed to the spot and started arguing with the cops.

In the viral videos, Mr Ali can be seen questioning the cops, shouting at them, and abusing them. Go perform your duties at a temple instead of masjids, he told the cops. He also questioned them when they locked the mosque.

Even as the corporator continued to abuse the cops, a few people tried to note down their names from their badges. When the cops covered their badges, Mr Ali and others pushed them aside.

The Santosh Nagar ACP, N. Shivaram Sharma, said a case has been registered against the corporator based on a complaint from the cops and an investigation is underway.

However, Mr Ali has denied the charges and instead alleged that the cops were forcing the authorities to lock the masjid. “They were threatening the people and using force. I only asked them if there was an order from any authorities concerned to lock masjids,” he said.
