AP gets 1L South-Korea made rapid COVID test kits, results out in 10 minutes
By Newsmeter Network Published on 17 April 2020 1:44 PM GMTAmaravati : Andhra Pradesh gets one lakh South-Korean made rapid test kits, to amplify the COVID testing process in the state. The new kits will enable the state’s health and family welfare staff to test 10,000 suspects at a time. Besides this, this kit will declare COVID result in 10 minutes, the state informed.
According to data, AP stands fourth in the country in the number of COVID test conducted. As per official records , 16,555 tests were conducted in the state till April 16. ‘While 331 tests were conducted for every 10 lakh people in Andhra Pradesh' a statement said.
On April 17th, the one lakh rapid kits, that were transported in a special flight, were handed over the state authorities by Random Medicaids Private Limited management.
According to Special Chief Secretary for medical and health Mr Jawahar Reddy, the kits will be dispatched to other district in next three days and doctors will be trained on how to operate the kit.
How does it work ?
According to the manufacturers, There are two strips called IGG and IGM in the kits on which the blood samples will be collected. Next, a solution ( in a controlled manner ) will be added. The makers assured that the COVID result will be out in 10 minutes.
The kits were manufactured by SD Biosensors company of South Korea and are approved by the ICMR.
Following the surge in number of coronavirus cases, Andhra Pradesh health department established labs in Vijayawada, Kakinada, Anantapur, Guntur, Kadapa and Visakhapatnam. At present, 2100 tests are being conducted in these labs, per day.
