Caught taking bribe via PhonePe, Petbasheerabad police constable suspended
By Newsmeter Network Published on 18 May 2020 6:34 AM GMTHyderabad: Cyberabad police have suspended Constable R Srikanth of Petbasheerabad police for allegedly taking bribe from a migrant worker who returned home from Maharashtra.
According to sources, Constable Srikanth was immediately attached to the Cyberabad commissionerate and an inquiry was initiated. After a report was submitted to the Commissioner, suspension orders were issued.
Pavan Kalyan, a resident of Kompally took to twitter informing that his father, who was working as a toddy tapper in Maharashtra had returned home. He was advised home quarantine as per the protocol.
Later Constable R Srikanth visited their home for an inquiry. After completing the process, he demanded Rs 500 from his father.
Though the family informed him that their financial situation was not good, he did not listen. After a long discussion, he forced Pavan Kalyan to transfer money through Phone Pay.
Later Pavan shared the screenshot of the PhonePay transaction and other details of the constable on Twitter.
As the tweet went viral, Cyberabad police swung into action. Petbasheerabad Inspector M Mahesh visited the family and inquired about their incident.
Later Pavan Kalyan wrote that Inspector gave him Rs 500 cash and 25 Kg of rice. He said the police officer also assured strict action against Srikanth
After a detailed inquiry, R Srikanth was placed under suspension. Recently, two cops of Afzalgunj police station, who were caught on camera collecting bribe from a trolley driver, were also placed under suspension, after the videos went viral.
