Civic negligence : 5YO boy falls into uncovered pit at Meerpet Park, dies
By Newsmeter Network Published on 12 Jun 2020 5:57 AM GMTHyderabad: Negligence of GHMC officials claimed the life of a five-year-old boy after he slipped into an uncovered pit at Meerpet in Hasthinapuram division on Thursday.
The boy accidentally fell into the pit that was dug by GHMC for constructing a community hall in the area.
According to police officials, Ramesh an auto driver hailing from Nalgonda district migrated to the city, along with his wife and two sons. They were residing in a rented house at Road No 20, Nandi hills of Meerpet.
Around 500 meters away, GHMC is developing a park for the residents in the area. A community hall is also a part of the park. Sources said GHMC had dug pits for laying columns. As this place is abutting the main road, colony residents frequent this place for walks.
On Thursday, Ramesh's elder son Manoj, his brother, and his cousin went to the area for playing. Manoj accidentally slipped into one of the pits.
The pit was filled with water after heavy rains on Wednesday. His brother and cousin rushed home and informed their parents. By the time they reached the spot, he had died. Later with the help of locals, the body was pulled out of the pit.
Meerpet police have registered only a suspicious death case. Further investigation is underway.
