Corona Baba who claimed to have powers to cure COVID, booked
By Ashish Bhosale Published on 25 July 2020 9:47 AM GMTHyderabad: Miyapur police under Cyberabad police Commissionerate, on Friday booked a case against Mohammed Ismail Baba alias 'Corona Baba' for treating COVID suspects through unscientific manner. The accused who claimed to have super-nature powers and can cure COVID, has been booked under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code , Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act.
Based on a tip off, the police carried out raids in Hanif Colony of Hyderabad's Hafeezpet on Friday night. Cops found people lined up for the treatment . The accused charged around Rs 40,000-Rs 50,000 per Corona suspect for unscientific treatment, cops said. As part of his treatment, he used to chant mantras, tie lemons, worship idols with Vibhuti and also do some tricks, the police said.

Speaking to Newsmeter, a Police inspector said āWe received many complaints from customers against the baba for his un-nature treatment. During raids, it was found that the customers were not maintaining physical distancing . He cheated them in the name of cure. We have booked him under various charges of cheating and also Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act,ā added SHO, Venkatesh Shamala, Inspector, Miyapur police station.
According to cops, the accused Corona Baba has started the business since March of this year and already had cheated many people. He made people believe that he has got supernatural powers to treat the Coronavirus and that it was not necessary to wear a mask.
