Coronavirus: Six Abu Dhabi returnees stopped at Nellore bus station

Nellore: Six people returning from Abu Dhabi were stopped by RTC officials at the main bus station in Nellore on 20 March over Coronavirus concerns. They were taken to the GGH for medical examinations.

The six, who are from north Andhra, arrived at Chennai airport and were on their way to Vizag. They were travelling via Nellore when the RTC staff members stopped them.

Four days ago, a man returning from London had travelled from Chennai by an APSRTC bus. He had subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. The RTC officials had also sent an attender who travelled in the same bus to the GGH for observation.

On Friday, the RTC officials informed the health officials and handed over the six people to them. They were tested at the special ward for Coronavirus and it was found that they did not display any symptoms of the virus. Nodal officer Dr Swarna Latha said they will release the six people after observing their health condition. She confirmed that they are not displaying any symptoms. They have not been quarantined, she said, adding there is no need for further investigations. Concerned authorities of their respective districts will be alerted so that they can be quarantined at home for 14 days.
