COVID-19: 10 police officers from Banjara Hills station test +ve

Hyderabad: Ten police officers from Banjara Hills police station in Hyderabad, including a sub-inspector, eight constables, and a home guard, tested positive for COVID-19 on 11 June. Another constable working at the DCP west zone office, who is a resident of Nizampet on the outskirts of the city, has also tested positive.

Two days ago, a constable from the Banjara Hills police station had tested positive for COVID-19 following which all the staff members of the station, including the inspector, were tested in phases. Meanwhile, another constable from the station had tested positive.

On Wednesday, an SI and four more constables tested positive for COVID-19, while results released later that night showed that three more constables had also been infected by the virus. According to sources, all the officers have mild symptoms. Meanwhile, around 30 staff of the police station have tested negative. As a precautionary measure, the police station has been sanitised and many staff members have been advised to quarantine themselves.

The number of COVID-positive police personnel is increasing in Telangana. Ten officers from the same police station, however, is the highest in the state. So far, over 100 police personnel have tested positive for corona virus. Some of them have recovered. A 37-year-old constable from the Kulsumpura police station succumbed to the virus.
