COVID 19: Telangana reports 1892 new cases, 31.7 per cent sample positivity rate

Hyderabad: Telangana reported highest single-day spike on Friday when 1892 people were tested positive for COVID-19.

With this, the overall tally has jumped to 20,462. Eight people died on Friday, taking the toll to 283 deaths.

GHMC area continues to remain the hotspot with 1,658 new cases reporting on Friday. Rangareddy reported 56 new COVID-19 cases, while Medchal reported 44 new cases.

Telangana also crossed 1 lakh mark in testing COVID-19 samples on Friday. The state tested 5,965 new samples taking the overall tally to 1.04,118 tests. The sample positivity rate remains highest in the state compared to the other states. The sample positivity rate jumped to 31.7 percent on Friday. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 9,984.

Telangana has the highest number of COVID active cases among the 10 worst-hit states in the country, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has revealed.

Till June 27, the state had 59.5 percent active cases. Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra are at second and third place with 43.3 and 43.1 percent active cases respectively.

Telangana also continues to be among the states with the lowest tests per million population at 2797 tests per million citizens. Bihar tops the chart of lowest test per million population at 2035 tests.

Telangana state government continues to flag private labs for issuing “incorrect” COVID19 results. In its bulletin, the government said one of the private laboratories has reported 71.7 percent sample positivity rate, which is a gross variation and discrepancy in the notified positivity rate of COVID-19 to date.
