Despite curb on alcohol Guntur police seize non-duty paid liquor worth Rs. 7L

Guntur: The Guntur rural police arrested four persons and seized 4,820 bottles of non-duty paid liquor worth Rs. 7,50,000. The police also seized two lorries and a car. The liquor was smuggled from three wine shops in Nalgonda district, the cops said.

The police said they are taking strict action against the accused and are booking not just the person who is smuggling the liquor but also the owners of the vehicles to send a message to anyone involved in similar activities. If a person is even remotely involved in the crime, like lending their vehicles, then they will not be spared, they said.

According to the police, the criminals have developed a new modus operandi and are smuggling liquor by boats. Earlier, the Guntur rural police had seized 800 bottles of alcohol that was being smuggled by boat, the police said.

Vishal Gunni, the SP of Guntur rural police station, said, “In the past two-and-a-half-months, the Guntur rural police have booked 1,150 Excise cases and arrested 779 people. During the period, we also seized 53,037 bottles of non-duty paid liquor.”
