Fraud:17 cases booked against D Mart outlets for tampering with MRP products

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Legal Metrology Department booked nine cases against D Mart outlet in Kushaiguda and eight cases against D Mart outlet in Kukatpally for tampering with MRP on products.

Medchal-Malkajgiri District Legal Metrology officer inspected the trading premises of Kukatpally D Mart in Hyderabad on October 25, 2019, based on a complaint by a consumer activist. The officers booked eight cases for violating various sections of the Legal Metrology Act 2009. After the inspection of the Kushaiguda D Mart premises on November 14, 2019, the officer booked nine cases for contraventions of various sections of the Act.

MRP is fixed by the packer, manufacturer, or importer as per Section 6(1) A of the Legal metrology Act. If an importer is fixing the MRP, he should not change the original MRP of the manufacturer and its details.

Mr S Umesh Kumar, a consumer activist told NewsMeter that D Mart has been replacing the original MRP of goods such as shirts, trousers etc., with their stickers. “Through this, they are increasing the MRP on those goods. Such outlets all over India are openly cheating and looting their customers. We need immediate inspections of other outlets of D Mart in India.”

In total, 53 cases have been booked against D Mart in Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Sangareddy district in the last two months.
