Shankar made his directorial debut in Bollywood with `Nayak', which is a Hindi remake of the Tamil film `Mudhalvan'. This was back in 2001. After 20 years, he is making a Bollywood comeback.
Ranveer always wanted to work with Shankar. It's reported that Ranveer's team during a visit to Chennai approached Shankar's team to check whether they can collaborate on a film.
However, since the script resembled Anniyan and the production house that distributed the movie in 2005 didn't give a clearance, it had to be dropped.
Not many know that Shankar was all praises for Ranveer for his performance in `Padmaavat'. He even tweeted his appreciation for the actor.
In an official statement, Ranveer described Shankar as a "true disruptor" who has proved with his films that no vision is large enough to achieve on screen.
"To lead a film like Anniyan is a dream come true for any artist. Vikram sir, one of our country's finest talents, an artist who I hugely admire, gave a colossal performance in the original, one that can never be matched. "I can only hope that my interpretation and rendition of the part also connects with audiences in the same way. It's undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime performance piece, and I am ready to give this role every single ounce of my being," he said.
On the professional front, Ranveer has completed 83 and Sooryavanshi. He is now working on Cirkus that is being directed by Rohit Shetty.
