Hyderabad: A video of a car crash that took two lives and severely injured one in a matter of seconds has gone viral on social media with the wrong location of the accident.

A tweet from a Twitter account with the username @Karachi_Update from Pakistan wrote, “Viral video: Heartbreaking accident in Hyderabad, a speeding car crushed 3 people who were taking a morning walk (sic),” while attaching a short clip of the horrific car accident. The Twitter handle claims that the video is from Hyderabad, Pakistan.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found the claim to be false as the accident took place in Hyderabad, India and not Pakistan.

NewsMeter reported on the same car crash that took two lives and injured one on July 4, 2023. According to the report, the car crash took place due to over speeding of a 19-year-old driver who was under the influence of alcohol. The accident took place at 5:30 am at Hyder Shah Kote main road in Bandlaguda Jagir on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The same report can be seen on the YouTube channel of NewsMeter as well.

For further confirmation, we also found the same report mentioning the location of the car accident as Hyderabad, India on multiple media outlets like Mint, India Today and NDTV.

With this, it is evident that the Karachi update Twitter handle inaccurately shared the video as Pakistan’s Hyderabad, whereas the incidence of place in Hyderabad in India.
