Hyderabad: A post claiming that Kerala State Civil Service Academy (KSCSA) is giving 50% reservation to Muslims is being widely shared on social media.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found the claim to be misleading.
Recently, the Kerala State Civil Service Academy (KSCSA) invited applications for the entrance examination conducted by them for admission to coaching classes for UPSC Civil Services examination. (Source: Asianet News, East Coast Daily)
When we checked the KSCSA website, we found an advertisement for the admission procedure. According to the website, only the Ponnani sub-centre offers 50% reservation for Muslims. Other sub-centres have no reservation for Muslims.
Also, 51% of the total seats in KSCSA Kalliiassery sub-centre are reserved for SC communities. If SC students are not available, the vacant seats will be filled from ST community. Ten per cent seats are reserved for students belonging to SC/ST communities for regular batches in all the centres.
Apart from the headquarters at Charachira in Thiruvananthapuram, there are nine sub-centres affiliated with the Kerala State Civil Service Academy.
Moreover, students selected under the reservation category are not required to pay tuition fees and GST. If sufficient students are not available in the reservation category, KSCSA is free to admit students from other categories. Also, 100 students with financial difficulties are eligible for fee reimbursement. Beneficiaries under SC/ST and Muslim reservations do not fall under this category.
A committee chaired by the then minister for local self-government, Paloli Mohammad Kutty, was set up to study the implementation of the Justice Sachar Commission report in Kerala. The committee reported that Muslim representation in the administrative cadre and top government posts was very low and that the reduction should be addressed through special coaching and reservation in promotions. Due to this reason, reservations were made for Muslims at the coaching centre set up in 2010 in Ponnani.
Hence, the claim is misleading.
