Fact Check: Old video from Bihar falsely shared as Tripura police chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' during recent violence

The claim is false.

NewsMeter ran a reverse image search of one of the keyframes of the video and found that several YouTube channels had posted the video in 2018. Click here and here to see the videos.

A YouTube channel had uploaded a longer version of the video on 25 November 2018 and claimed that it was from Ayodhya. People can also be heard raising right-wing slogans.

We found a Facebook page that had shared the video posted on 28 March 2018. The caption, when translated, read, "Bihar police along with rioters are also raising slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram'. These people are also defaming the holy slogan."

Patna Live, a local news outlet, had carried the same video in its report dated 30 March 2018. It said on 27 March, on the occasion of Chaitra Durga Puja, there was a clash between two communities in Rosda Bazar in Samastipur district, Bihar. The report further said the video of a Bihar policeman shouting 'Jai Shri Ram' had gone viral after the incident.

An article by The Indian Express, published on 29 March 2018, read, "Communal tension again gripped Rosera town in Samastipur three days after communal clashes on Monday night. More than 60 persons, including policemen, were injured and dozens of shops and vehicles were torched in Rosera during the clashes."

Hence, the claim that the video shows Tripura cops chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' and provoking rioters during the recent violence in the state is false. The video is from Bihar from 2018.
