Hyderabad: A video of a mob attacking a man with sharp weapons is viral on social media. Social media users claim that the video was shot in Hyderabad and the man being attacked is an alleged rapist of a six-year-old girl.

Fact check:

The claim is false.

NewsMeter found that this is an old video that has been circulating with a false claim. The video is from Tonk in Rajasthan where Muslim youth together killed a Hindu man. Now, it is circulating with another claim relating it to rape incident at Saidabad.

We refuted the claim on August 28, 2021.

According to the information, the video relates to the murder of Anwar Sheikh. He was murdered in Haveri, Karnataka and police have arrested Imran Choudhary in the case.

As per the report by The Times of India, the reason behind the murder was a dispute over extortion money.

Further, with the help of keyword search, we found several news reports about the incident being reported. According to the reports, a senior police officer said the prime suspect is the girl's neighbor and was absconding. A complaint has been made by the victim's family.

Another report by The NewsMinute said that the culprit has not been arrested yet, and a special team has been constituted to investigate into the case.

We did not find any reports on the culprits been arrested or been beaten by the public.

In the second video, people had gathered to protest a rape incident. According to reports, youth organizations were demanding a magisterial probe.
