A video of a boat capsizing in the sea is doing the rounds of social media with the claim that it shows the fury of cyclone Mandous at Kakinada-Uppada beach in Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad: After cyclone Mandous made landfall on the night of 9 December in Tamil Nadu, also bringing rainfall in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Puducherry, several videos and photos are being shared with false claims.

A video of a boat capsizing in the sea is doing the rounds of social media with the claim that it shows the fury of cyclone Mandous at Kakinada-Uppada beach in Andhra Pradesh.

Fact Check

NewsMeter performed a reverse image of the video's keyframe and found the same video in a report published by Zee Malayalam on 2 August 2022. It said the video shows a boat accident at Neendakara, Kollam in Kerala.

We also found the video in an article published by ETV Malayalam on 1 August 2022. According to the article, the accident took place on 1 August 2022 at around 5:30 p.m. at Neendakara, Kollam in Kerala. It also said that four fishermen fell into the sea as the boat was overturned by the raging sea wave. However, they were rescued by fishermen of another boat.

The video of the accident was also published on YouTube by India Today Malayalam on 2 August 2022. According to the caption, the video shows a boat capsizing at Neendakara, Kollam in Kerala.

It is evident that the video of the boat accident is from August 2022 and is from Kerala. Hence, the claim that the video shows a boat accident due to cyclone Mandous in Andhra Pradesh is misleading.
