Fact Check: Ratan Tata has not pledged his entire wealth to rid India of COVID-19

Hyderabad: Social media users are claiming that industrialist Ratan Tata recently said he is willing to spend his entire wealth to make India a coronavirus-free country. The post has gone viral on social media.

The post in Hindi translates as, "Ratan Tata has said- if I lose my property it doesn't matter but India should be free from Corona."

Fact Check:

NewsMeter searched online for media reports regarding Ratan Tata's claim but found none. There were no reports that said Mr. Tata is willing to spend his entire wealth to make India COVID-free. If this were true, mainstream media outlets would have published articles reporting the same.

The Tata Group has committed Rs. 1,500 crore for COVID-19 relief. In addition to this, Tata employees have contributed crores towards various response projects. According to the official Tata website and several media reports, the Tata Trusts recently announced that they would help the government's efforts to increase the production and supply of medical oxygen in the country. However, neither Mr. Tata nor the Tata Group has announced that the industrialist will donate his entire wealth to rid India of the virus. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
