HYDERABAD: Telangana government on Sunday decided to extend the COVID lockdown in the state.
Several WhatsApp forwards were circulated claiming that the lockdown has been extended for 15 days with relaxation from 6 am to 12 pm every day.
FACT CHECK:
In the cabinet meeting, it was decided that the lockdown would be extended by 10 days i.e. till 9 June 2021. There shall be complete lockdown in all parts of the state from 2 pm to 6 am and the relaxation period is scheduled between 6 am to 2 pm. However, all shops, offices, establishments, etc shall be closed by 1 pm. Individuals will be given one hour grace period after 1 pm to reach home and after 2 pm strict lockdown will be imposed.
A government order 116 listed permitted and prohibited activities and other general instructions. (Lockdown guidelines pdf)
The same was also reported by several media organizations and by the Telangana CMO. NewsMeter has also reported on the same in detail. The lockdown has only been extended by 10 days and not 15 days and the relaxation period is from 6 am to 1 pm. Clearly, the WhatsApp messages are false.
