Viral video of Hindu girl joining ISIS is a teaser of upcoming film 'The Kerala story'

Hyderabad: A video of a burqa-clad woman is being widely circulated on social media with the claim that it shows a Hindu woman from Kerala who converted to Islam and eventually joined the terrorist organisation ISIS.

In the video, the woman can be heard saying, "Now, I am Fatima Ba, an ISIS terrorist in Afghanistan jail. I am not the only one; over 32,000 girls like me converted and are now buried in the deserts of Yemen and Afghanistan."

Several Facebook and Twitter users have shared the video.

Fact Check

NewsMeter noticed that the woman in the video looked like actress Adah Sharma. This gave us the clue that the video could be from a film. We then performed a reverse image search of the video's keyframe and found a longer version of the video published on 3 November on the YouTube channel Sunshine Pictures. The video is titled "The Kerala Story Teaser."

Adah Sharma also took to Twitter to share the teaser and said that the "Heartbreaking and gut-wrenching" story of 32,000 females from Kerala is coming soon.

According to India Today, the teaser was released on 3 November. The film narrates the stories of how women in Kerala are forcibly converted and inducted into ISIS. The film has been directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under the banner of Sunshine Pictures.

It is evident that the video is a film teaser and is not a recording of a prisoner in the custody of ISIS. Hence, we conclude that the video is being shared without context to mislead people.

Note: After the release of the teaser, some people questioned the figure of 32,000 girls in Kerala being inducted into ISIS. In this article, we have only fact-checked the viral clip of the teaser doing the rounds without context and not the claims made in the teaser by the filmmakers.
